Tommy Eugene Newman, 77, of Oklahoma City, passed away on September 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. Born September 25, 1947, to William and Lillie Mae Newman, Tommy grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Southeast High School in 1965.
Following graduation, Tommy built a proud career as a skilled electrician and was a devoted member of IBEW. He worked for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies for 32 years, where he not only built a livelihood but also met the love of his life, Carol. Together, they shared more than 47 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, adventure, and countless memories.
Tommy’s love for life extended far beyond work. In the 1980s, he and Carol ran a beloved motorcycle track on Southeast 59th and Douglas in Oklahoma City, where friends and family gathered for over a decade of racing excitement. Though he retired from competitive racing, Tommy’s passion for motorcycles never wavered. In 2003, he purchased his first Harley-Davidson, sparking years of riding through the hills of South Dakota and attending numerous Sturgis rallies alongside Carol.
Another of Tommy’s greatest joys was restoring and showing classic cars. While on a trip to South Dakota, he discovered his treasured 1956 Chevy Nomad he had always been looking for. With endless dedication and love, he brought it back to life, driving it proudly to car shows as a member of both the Nomad Club and Tri-City Cruisers.
When not on the open road, Tommy enjoyed time at Lake Tenkiller, where he and Carol created a welcoming haven for family and friends. His zest for life, warmth, and kindness left an impression on everyone who knew him.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his sons, Tommy G. Newman and longtime girlfriend Teresa Brock, and Michael Stephens; granddaughter, Kennedy Baker; and a host of cousins, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He is also survived by his faithful four-legged companions, Ladybug and June Bug.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillie Mae Newman and his daughter, Shantel Dawn Tillett who passed on August 26, 2024.
Funeral services are entrusted to Tribute Memorial Care Southwest of Tuttle. Services will be held Monday, September 15, at 11:00 AM at the Tribute Memorial Care Event Center. A visitation for family and friends will take place Sunday, September 14, from 3:00–6:00 PM at Tribute Memorial Care Southwest. Tommy will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and love during Tommy’s illness. A special thank you goes to his sister-in-law, Joanne Greeson, for her tireless care during his final weeks, and to his sister-in-law, Holly Olsen, for her constant love and support.
Above all, Tommy will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, and a man who lived life to the fullest—whether on two wheels, behind the wheel of a Nomad, or surrounded by those he loved most.
