Robert Joe Douglas Fryrear

March 16, 1983 — June 1, 2023

Robert "Joe" Douglas Fryrear, a resident of Lexington, Oklahoma, passed away on June 1, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born on March 16, 1983, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Helen Marie “McDaniels” Fryrear and Robert Dean Fly. Joe spent most of his childhood in Tuttle, Oklahoma, with his mother, stepfather Houston "Gene" Pickens, sister, and little brother. Despite not having much, Joe and his siblings always found ways to entertain themselves outdoors. Joe also spent a lot of time with his grandparents, where he developed a passion for mechanical work, inspired by his grandfather.

In 2004, Joe met Melisa Sue Coats, and they became friends. They discovered that they shared the same birthday, and their love story began. Joe proposed to Melisa, and they got married on October 8, 2006, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. As a couple, they enjoyed going to concerts, spending time with their children, and taking Sunday afternoon drives. They were blessed with five children: Delyssa Rayne, Morgan Kathleen, Gabriel Lucius Alexander, Atticus Eugene Homer, and Elijah Joe Allen.

Joe was a free spirit who loved going on adventures with his family. One day, they went on a trip to the Great Salt Plains to dig for crystals. He was an amazing dad who loved his family and supported them in any way he could.

Joe had a passion for animals, gardening, music, baking pies and cobblers, and making delicious bacon cheeseburgers.

He is survived by his wife, Melisa “Coats” Fryrear; his children, Delyssa Fryrear, Morgan Fryrear, Gabriel Fryrear, Atticus Fryrear, and Elijah Fryrear; sister, Melinda Lugo and her husband, Rene Lugo-Gonzalez; brother, Gary Fly; stepfather, Houston "Gene" Pickens, and his nieces, Autumn Shelley and Bella Osmus and nephew, Devin Shelley.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, uncles Randy Taylor, George McDaniels, and his aunt Theresa “Tina” McDaniels.
