Richard Carl Hampton of Oklahoma City entered through the gates of heaven on September 30, 2023 at the age of 78.
Richard was born on January 5, 1945 to Vera and Neil Hampton. Growing up, Richard had a huge heart for animals. He also had a fearless streak and he and his friends were always up for adventure. Richard attended school in Oklahoma City where he was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School. Richard joined the US Army where he served in Vietnam for two years.
In 1973 Richard married the love of his life Shirley Shelton. Richard and Shirley welcomed their only daughter, Cara to their family just a few short years later. Richard absolutely adored her and made sure he was a present father who made it to all of her school functions and activities.
During his career, Richard worked at OPUBCO and at Stick/Strip Inc. as a printing press operator. Later in life he worked for the FAA in the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) where he helped research and test aviation safety.
Richard loved helping others and working with his hands. He desired to make people laugh and brighten their day. He also liked restoring antique cars and had a talent for building custom furniture. Richard always looked forward to going to classic car shows, swap meets and auctions with his friends, and enjoyed attending his Sunday school class. He was always up for a great action movie or an outdoor excursion. Richard’s favorite hobby was fishing and he had over 40 fishing poles to prove it!
Richard had peace about meeting Jesus for that is when his greatest adventure would begin.
