Nicole Josiane Yates, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the age of 84.
Nicole was born November 25, 1938 in Chalons Sur Marne, France, to Stanislava and Edmond Coulbrant, she was the only daughter of their four children. She was raised in France during World War II and faced many challenges at a young age. She graduated from nursing school and became a pediatric nurse while living in Fontainebleau, France.
She met the love of her life, W.C., while sitting at a sidewalk cafe with her friend in 1958. W.C. was in the military and would seem to show up wherever she was. This must have worked because just a short year later, they were married and the rest, as they say, was history. Since W.C. was in the military, they moved around and in 1967, they moved to Texas where W.C. retired from the military. Nicole taught herself how to read and write in English, as well as how to make her husband's favorite foods, including but definitely not limited to, meatloaf, stew, pinto bean and ham hock and fried chicken and potato salad.
After only being in San Antonio Texas for a short time, the family up and moved to Oregon where Nicole was a homemaker. She loved her kids unconditionally and made sure that they always had what they needed. She loved making them special treats like homemade fudge and Swedish farmer cookies at Christmas time.
In 1983, Nicole and W.C. moved to Oklahoma to be closer to W.C.'s parents. She loved living in Oklahoma and found great comfort in W.C.’s parents who lovingly accepted her as one of their own. Nicole loved people and being involved in her church. In Nicole's spare time she loved knitting and making lap blankets for patients in the cancer care center.
Nicole is survived by her son Steve Yates; daughter Pamela Huff and husband Geffrey; daughter Kim Wolgamott and husband Jayson; grandchildren Jeanette Yates, Kristy McCaslin and husband David, Johnny Nesdahl and wife Kelly, Lonnie Martinez and Sarah Martinez; great grandchildren Ayden, Alex, Savannah, Azaylia, Paige, Kaisley; Sister In-laws Gwendolyn Bomgardner and husband Kenny; Virginia Weaver and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nicole was proceeded in death by her husband W.C. Yates; her parents Stanislava and Edmond Coulbrant; in-laws Orpha and Omar Yates; brother Jaques Coulbrant; brother Bernard Coulbrant, and brother Michael Coulbrant.
