John Everett Young

John Young, 70, passed away on March 17, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK.

John Young was born on October 11, 1952 in Tulsa, OK, to Melva and Tom Young. He was involved in the concert, jazz, and marching band where he played clarinet. John graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the class of 1971 and went on to earn an associates degree from Oklahoma City Community College. He started his career as a HVAC Technician and went on to work for The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center for 24 years. He was also faculty at Sooner Trade School for 20 years.

John's first year of college was spent at the University of Oklahoma where he played in the Pride of Oklahoma marching band where he met Patricia Decker who was also a member of the band. The two fell in love and were engaged following John's proposal at Holmberg Hall on the OU campus. John and Patricia married April 5, 1974 in Norman, Oklahoma and were blessed with two boys Timothy John and Mark Everett. He was a Dad who was always available to his family even though he often worked his HVAC career during the day and taught at technical school in the evening. His boys could always count on Dad to bring home trinkets and gifts from the hospital gift shop and they never doubted his love for them.

John was best known for his faith, intelligence, hard work ethic and putting his family first. He loved family gatherings and was always known for his love of hard candy. He loved filling his pockets with hard candy offered by business even if it embarrassed his wife and kids. He was an avid OU football fan.

John adored his six grandchildren Thomas, Paul, Matthew, Joseph, Leah and Hannah. He loved when he was able to be at their school activities and he enjoyed hands on play with each of them.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years Patricia Young; son Tim Young and wife Ruth, son Mark Young and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren Thomas, Paul, Matthew, Joseph, Leah and Hannah; sister Claudia Reynolds and husband Roger; brother Tom Young and wife Evette; brother Joe Young; sister in law Judy Young; honorary sons Gordan and Daniel Lizama along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents Melva and Tom; infant brother Frankie Young; infant sister Rebecca Young; and brother David Young.
